The experience
A ritual, not a demonstration.
Bochu-no-Kan is a private 60–90 minute journey through the heart of Japanese aesthetics — wabi-sabi, wa-kei-sei-jaku, the art of presence. Through meditation, breath, and the unhurried grace of tea, you move from noise into stillness.
For over 400 years — since the age of the samurai — preparing a single bowl of matcha has been Japan's quiet practice of returning to oneself.
Harmony
和敬清寂
Harmony, respect, purity, tranquility — four principles that guide the ritual and live on in your daily life.
Wabi-sabi
侘び寂び
Beauty found in imperfection and simplicity — present in the space, the tools, every unhurried gesture.
Harmonious circle
一座建立
Creating this moment together — every individual present contributes to a unique and harmonious space.
Zen & tea
茶禅一味
The way of Matcha is the way of Zen. Each bowl is an invitation to return to the present moment.
What Makes This Unlike Anything Else
Beyond a tea ceremony.
A threshold into stillness.
Most tea experiences show you Japan. Bochu-no-Kan lets you feel it — and gives you something to carry home.
The vision
"What the modern world needs is not more stimulation — it is stillness. The same wonder that moved Renoir and Van Gogh is here, waiting for you. And when each of us finds that stillness, the world changes."
— Mikiko, Founder, Bishin LAB

Before you inquire
Frequently asked questions.
Do I need any knowledge of tea ceremony to participate?
Not at all. Bochu-no-Kan is designed for guests experiencing Japanese tea culture for the first time. Everything is guided in English, and the meaning behind each moment is gently explained. Stillness has no prerequisites.
Is kneeling on tatami required?
No. Our sessions are offered in a chair-seating style, so you can be fully at ease throughout.
Can dietary restrictions or allergies be accommodated?
Yes. The handcrafted wagashi (Japanese confectionery) can be adapted for most dietary restrictions with advance notice. Please share any requirements when you inquire.
Where does the experience take place?
Inside a historic temple in Minato-ku, central Tokyo, that is closed to the general public. The exact location is shared upon booking confirmation. It is easily accessible from major hotels in central Tokyo.
How long is the experience, and how many guests can join?
Each session lasts 60–90 minutes and is fully private for your party of 2–10 guests. No two sessions are alike. For parties larger than 10, please contact us.
Is photography allowed?
We ask for your presence — not your camera — during the ritual itself. A dedicated time for photographs is offered at the end, with a second serving of matcha.
How far in advance should we book?
A minimum of 10 business days is required. Peak seasons (October–November, March–April) fill early, so we recommend inquiring as soon as your Tokyo dates are set.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund for cancellations made 7 days or more before the session; 50% for cancellations within 7 days; 100% for cancellations within 48 hours of the session.
